Itinerant Speech and Language Pathologist: Preschool (CPPI Grant) Location: Fitchburg School District South Street Early Learning Center, Fitchburg, Massachusetts Starting Date: Immediately Job Description This position is part of the Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative (CPPI) grant. The goals of this grant are expansion and access to quality preschool, building locally aligned quality, and equitable access to special education and inclusion. The Speech & Language Pathologist (SLP) will observe all students to determine preschool learners with speech or language disorders, offer Tier 1/2 suggestions, provide coaching, keep appropriate records, and inform faculty about observed growth. The SLP will recommend specific opportunities for school/home growth with speech and language. Qualifications Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in Speech Language and Hearing Disorders (All levels) CCC‑SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech‑Language Pathology) issued by ASHA CFY – Clinical Fellow Year Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and to advocate for children in problem‑solving Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders Belief in commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social‑emotional, to achieve the highest level of attainment for every student Collaborate with preschool itinerant teams (Clinical Interventionists, SPED Teachers, OT) Travel required between several sites including YMCA and Head Start Provide learning experiences guided by Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, creating a conducive learning environment Differentiate instruction and provide opportunities for learning using the RTI framework Implement the district mission, philosophy of education, instructional standards, objectives, and CPPI mission Document progress and concerns of students and seek assistance of additional district specialists when required Complete evaluations that measure progress according to professional guidelines Monitor and supervise students through effective classroom management Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including effective use of technology, to increase student confidence and learning Follow professional practices consistent with district policies when working with students, parents, and preschool colleagues Suggest family activities that support the child's speech therapy program when appropriate Essential Duties & Responsibilities Collaborate with preschool itinerant teams including Clinical Interventionists, SPED Teachers, and OT Travel between several sites in partnership with city preschools such as YMCA and Head Start Provide learning experiences guided by Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, creating a conducive environment for student learning Differentiate instruction and provide opportunities for learning using the RTI framework Implement the district’s mission, philosophy of education, instructional standards, objectives, and CPPI’s mission Document progress and concerns of students and seek assistance from additional district specialists when required Complete evaluations that measure progress according to professional guidelines Monitor and supervise students through effective classroom management Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement Use innovative instructional strategies and technology to increase student learning and confidence Follow professional practices consistent with district policies when working with students, parents, and preschool colleagues Suggest family activities that supplement the student’s speech therapy program when appropriate Reports To CPPI Grant Coordinator/Director of Preschool Evaluated By CPPI Grant Coordinator/Director of Preschool Terms of Employment / Salary / Work Year $45.00 per hour, NTE 30 hours per week Seasonal/Temporary – Summer employment (approximately 4 weeks), July 22 – August 22 Notice of Non-Discrimination The School Committee’s policy of nondiscrimination extends to students, employees, and the general public with whom it does business.
