Technical Support Engineer (Remote)

Salary: $110,000 - 150,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in information technology, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• We look for at least 3 years of experience in information technology.
• We require 2+ years working with Windows and/or Linux platforms, with the ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues at both the application and server OS level.
• We look for 2+ years of hands-on experience with virtual infrastructure, particularly VMware vSphere and vCenter administration.
• We expect practical experience with patch management tools such as WSUS, SCCM, or similar platforms, including patch scheduling, compliance reporting, and rollback processes.
• We require experience carrying out scheduled maintenance and change management procedures in an enterprise setting.
• We look for experience administering Active Directory, including users, groups, group policies, replication services, and folder redirection.
• We value experience with network monitoring tools such as Zabbix, ScienceLogic, SolarWinds, or Nagios.
• We require familiarity with routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, along with strong TCP/IP administration and troubleshooting knowledge.
• We look for experience supporting Microsoft technologies including SharePoint, Office 365, and SCCM.
• We expect foundational knowledge of backup and patching, with Veeam or Commvault experience considered a plus.
• We value understanding of authentication methods such as multi-factor authentication and the OSI model.
• Scripting experience in Python, PHP, or PowerShell is a plus, especially for automating patching or maintenance tasks.
• Experience with Ansible is a plus.
• We want strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills, along with excellent written communication for shift handoff notes.
• We need the ability to work independently with minimal supervision during overnight hours.
• We require reliability, punctuality, and comfort with a consistent overnight schedule, including possible weekend coverage.
• We look for strong customer service and clear communication skills for off-hours support and maintenance coordination.

• We serve as the primary contact for overnight customer incidents submitted through our portal or by phone.
• We monitor and respond to alerts across our internal and customer systems, proactively watching production environments for performance issues, hardware failures, and other operational risks.
• We troubleshoot and resolve issues in virtual platforms and virtual infrastructure, including vCenter and vCloud, and perform maintenance within the VMware environment.
• We investigate network-related problems involving routing, firewalls, and load balancers, escalating to Tier 2 when needed.
• We fulfill overnight service requests for account creation and changes, including portal, Windows, Linux, email, VPN, DUO, and FTP accounts.
• We adjust IaaS and PaaS resources such as RAM, CPU, and disk space to match customer needs.
• We run approved patch cycles for Windows and Linux servers during overnight maintenance windows.
• We apply operating system security patches, hotfixes, and cumulative updates using WSUS, SCCM, or comparable tools.
• We verify patch success, assess system health after patching, and document results for each cycle.
• We coordinate patching with the day team and change management process to ensure work is pre-approved and properly scheduled.
• We identify and report patch failures or systems needing remediation, escalating unresolved items with complete documentation to the next shift.
• We maintain patch logs and support monthly compliance reporting for customer environments.
• We carry out scheduled maintenance during approved overnight windows, including server reboots, firmware updates, storage provisioning, and configuration changes.
• We perform and document decommissioning and provisioning activities for physical and virtual servers.
• We assist with backup validation and restore testing using platforms such as Veeam or Commvault, escalating failures immediately.
• We complete DNS creations and modifications as part of scheduled change requests.
• We coordinate maintenance with customers in advance and provide clear status and completion updates.
• We prepare shift handoff documentation summarizing incidents, maintenance completed, and items requiring follow-up from the day shift.
• We manage Microsoft Windows server systems and related technologies, including clustering, DHCP, DNS, WINS, and DFS.
• We administer Microsoft Active Directory and support interoperability with different directory structures and security methods.
• We provide technical assistance to our customers for the support and administration of Windows and Linux servers.
• We escalate tickets to the appropriate internal IT teams and coordinate with on-call engineers for critical overnight incidents.
• We help create and maintain team standards, policies, procedures, documentation, and runbooks.
• We look for ways to improve overnight processes and operational efficiency.
• We perform other duties as assigned by management.
