Senior Accountant

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join a steel manufacturing and distribution company. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with the Chief Financial Officer while gaining broad exposure to accounting operations, payroll, financial reporting, ERP processes, and manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, coordinating information, and working across departments. The position is well suited for an experienced industry accountant or a public accounting professional seeking a transition into a visible, hands‑on role in industry. Position Overview The Senior Accountant will serve as the primary internal accounting support resource for the CFO and the liaison between company personnel and the outsourced accounting team. The outsourced accounting team performs the monthly close and prepares financial reporting. This position is responsible for coordinating the information needed for those processes, administering payroll, managing credit card and expense documentation, resolving transaction questions, and supporting accounting‑related operational initiatives. Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and the outsourced accounting team. Coordinate the collection, organization, and timely delivery of information required for the monthly close and financial reporting process. Research and resolve questions concerning bank activity, credit card transactions, supporting documentation, coding, and ERP transactions. Follow up with internal personnel on open accounting items and outstanding information requests. Maintain organized accounting records, documentation, and supporting schedules. Assist the CFO with financial and operational projects as assigned. Payroll Administration Process payroll and maintain complete, accurate payroll records. Coordinate employee payroll changes, deductions, benefit updates, and other payroll‑related information. Serve as the primary internal contact for payroll questions and ensure information is submitted accurately and timely. Credit Card & Expense Administration Administer the company credit card and expense documentation process. Collect receipts and business‑purpose documentation and follow up on missing or incomplete information. Coordinate expense coding and supporting information with the outsourced accounting team. ERP & Operational Support Serve as an internal resource for accounting‑related ERP questions and transaction issues. Work with administrative and operations personnel to resolve missing, incomplete, or inaccurate transaction information. Support efforts to improve accounting workflows, documentation, data accuracy, and internal processes. Work Assignment & Travel This is a hybrid position that combines remote work with in‑person collaboration based on business needs. Periodic travel to the company's manufacturing facility and other company locations will be required for meetings, process discussions, operational reviews, and collaboration with plant and administrative personnel. Candidates should be comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments and communicating with employees across multiple functions. Qualifications Required Demonstrate utilization & comfort level with A.I. tools. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Approximately 2-3 years of accounting, audit, or finance experience. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort learning business systems. Excellent organizational, communication, follow‑through, and problem‑solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external teams. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Preferred Public accounting experience, including audit or assurance work. Exposure to manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments. Experience with ERP systems or payroll administration.
