Senior Accountant

$48.00/hour | Conversion salary ~$90K–$100K Join a mission-driven nonprofit focused on expanding youth access to sports while playing a key role in supporting the financial operations of two affiliated organizations. About the Role Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of their private foundation and public charity. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, this role will contribute to the organization’s financial integrity through general ledger accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and grant tracking. The Senior Accountant will also help transition routine accounting functions from external consultants to internal operations while identifying opportunities to improve processes and systems. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands‑on accounting work and improving operational efficiency within a collaborative nonprofit environment. Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Accounting Prepare month‑end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations (investments, payroll, prepaid expenses, accruals) Record bank transactions and complete bank and credit card reconciliations Review revenue and expenses for proper recognition and coding Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards Assist with transitioning accounting tasks from external consultants to internal operations Budgeting & Grant Tracking Track grant revenue and expenses and assist with grant reporting Support development and monitoring of departmental and organizational budgets Analyze monthly budget variances Prepare monthly financial statements for both nonprofit entities Manage shared expense allocations and intercompany transactions Support fiscal year‑end close and assist with audits and tax preparation Compile documentation for state and federal lobbying reports Process Improvement Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures Identify opportunities to streamline finance and accounting operations Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required 2–4 years of nonprofit accounting experience required Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookup functions) Proficiency in Microsoft Office QuickBooks Online experience preferred Grant accounting or grant tracking experience preferred Intercompany accounting experience a plus Strong attention to detail and communication skills Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast‑paced nonprofit environment We will consider qualified candidates with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring.
