Job Summary:


To provide a well-organized, smoothly, functioning Media Center/Library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma.

• General knowledge of secretarial duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to work with students, teachers, and the general public in a courteous manner.
• Proficient use of computers and other office applications (Microsoft / Google / Email).
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as district administration may find appropriate and acceptable

Essential Duties:

• Types and processes orders, reports, bibliographies, forms, library schedules, letters to publishers, catalog cards, and the like (both physical and electronic)
• Orders and receives books selective for purchase by the media specialist/librarian
• Maintains files of catalog cards, vertical file material, publishers' catalogs, and the like (both physical and electronic)
• Writes daily notices to homeroom teachers concerning overdue books/materials and collects fines for such books/materials
• Make simple repairs on damaged books and process more severely damaged books for repair at the bindery.
• Readies books/materials for reserve on teachers' requests and maintains the reserve shelf.
• Prepares current magazines for shelving and maintains the back-number stacks.
• Assists in the annual inventory of library materials and the preparation of lists of missing books and books to be discarded.
• Shelves incoming books.
• Maintains the current inventory of supplies and suggests items for acquisition as needed.
• Oversee the general neatness and attractiveness of the Media Center/Library and its displays.
• Help students locate reference materials and other instructional materials.
• Reads to small groups of students (in elementary school libraries only).
• Assists the media specialist in maintaining proper student discipline.
• The supervisor may assign other duties as needed.
