Job Title: Quality Inspector Job Description

This role performs detailed inspections of precision components using advanced metrology tools and techniques to ensure products meet all specifications and quality standards. You will independently plan and execute inspections, interpret technical drawings and GD&T, and provide clear, data-driven feedback to support manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed inspections of parts and assemblies using precision measurement equipment and devices.
• Apply metrology and measurement techniques to verify dimensional accuracy and product conformity.
• Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, optical comparators, gauge pins, gauge blocks, and other inspection equipment to complete inspections.
• Run products on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), interpret results, and determine whether products meet specifications.
• Write CMM programs based on parts and specification drawings to support repeatable and accurate inspections.
• Write programs for video measurement equipment using parts and specification drawings as a reference.
• Interpret and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements during inspection activities.
• Summarize quality control data, prepare clear reports, and communicate results to management.
• Document nonconforming products in accordance with company directives and established procedures.
• Perform AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAIs) and complete all related documentation accurately and on time.
• Use basic statistical techniques to evaluate measurement data, identify trends, and support quality analysis.
• Leverage a basic understanding of machining processes to communicate inspection findings effectively with the production floor.
• Drive safety practices within the organization by following and promoting safe work procedures.
• Work independently with minimal or no supervisory input while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned in support of quality and production objectives.

Essential Skills

• Strong working knowledge of metrology and measurement techniques.
• Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, optical comparators, gauge pins, gauge blocks, and other inspection equipment.
• Ability to perform inspections using precision measurement equipment and devices with high accuracy.
• Experience applying GD&T to complete inspection activities and interpret engineering drawings.
• Ability to run products on CMMs, interpret results, and determine product conformity.
• Ability to write CMM programs based on parts and specification drawings.
• Ability to summarize quality control data and report results clearly to management.
• Ability to document nonconforming products in accordance with company directives.
• Experience performing AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAIs) and completing related documentation.
• Ability to use basic statistical techniques for evaluating measurement data and identifying trends.
• Basic understanding of machining processes to support effective communication with production teams.
• Ability to write programs for video measurement equipment using parts and specification drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with micrometers, gauges, and calipers.
• High school diploma.
• Some technical-related training.
• Eligibility to work as a US person, as required for this role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
• Familiarity with Zeiss Calypso software or similar CMM programming tools.
• Prior experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Exposure to Six Sigma principles or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to measurement and documentation.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with production and management teams.

Work Environment

This position follows a weekday schedule with two primary shift options: a first shift from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a second shift from Monday to Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with some flexibility. You will work in a production and inspection environment that uses a wide range of precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, optical comparators, gauge pins, gauge blocks, CMMs, and video measurement equipment. The work involves close collaboration with machining and production areas, adherence to established safety practices, and consistent use of inspection equipment and documentation systems. Dress is typically appropriate for a manufacturing and quality inspection setting, supporting both safety and professionalism.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
