Hybrid/Staff Accountant

Job Summary

A growing real estate and property management organization is seeking a Hybrid Staff Accountant for a temp-to-hire opportunity in Thousand Oaks, CA. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with 3-5 years of experience who enjoys bank reconciliations, general ledger analysis, journal entries, and cross-department communication.

The Staff Accountant will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, resolving reconciliation items, supporting audit requests, and ensuring timely reporting. Key Responsibilities

- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliation activities for multiple bank accounts and communicate reconciliation items to the appropriate departments.
- Follow up on reconciling items through final resolution and ensure monthly bank reconciliations are completed, saved, and submitted on time.
- Review bank activity downloads, NSF checks, returned items, misapplied funds reports, and payment dashboard exceptions for accuracy and follow-up.
- Prepare manual journal entries as needed to clear bank reconciliation items and support accurate general ledger reporting.
- Complete monthly Bank vs. GL analysis, identify variances, and meet established reporting deadlines.
- Assist with annual, interim, and roll-forward audit requests, ad-hoc reporting, and special accounting projects.

- Salary range: $58,240 to $70,720 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Perform bank reconciliations for daily and monthly account activity.
- Research and resolve reconciliation variances, returned items, and misapplied funds.
- Prepare journal entries and support Bank vs. GL analysis.
- Assist with audit requests, accounting reports, and special projects.

- 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in staff accounting, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general ledger support.
- Strong understanding of bank reconciliation processes, journal entries, variance analysis, and accounting controls.
- Ability to review financial data accurately and identify discrepancies, exceptions, and required corrections.
- Proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, organization, and deadline management.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across departments.
- Ability to follow established policies, procedures, systems, training requirements, and applicable legal or compliance mandates.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in real estate, property management, residential operations, or multi-entity accounting.
- Experience reviewing bank activity downloads, NSF items, returned payments, and payment dashboard exceptions.
- Familiarity with audit support, roll-forward schedules, and monthly close activities.
- Ability to support newly acquired property account mapping or similar accounting setup processes.
