Responsibilities:

Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting of patient results.

Maintain meticulous records demonstrating proficiency testing is aligned with routine patient specimen testing.

Analyze specimens using approved testing methods in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Review test results for accuracy and release reports to appropriate healthcare professionals or clients.

Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other safety guidelines, consistently maintaining a safe working environment.

Implement and document all quality control activities, including calibrations, instrument maintenance, and procedural checks.

Identify and troubleshoot issues that may affect test performance or reporting accuracy; take corrective actions or escalate as needed.

Report STAT and critical results promptly according to departmental protocols.

Answer client or internal questions regarding test results when applicable.

Maintain comprehensive and organized records of all testing activities.

Monitor reagent/test kit expiration dates and ensure proper storage and inventory management.

Participate in ongoing training, including reviewing new procedures, attending departmental meetings, and safety education.

Support regulatory inspections through compliance with audit standards.

Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisory staff to ensure laboratory efficiency and compliance.

Required Skills:

Solid understanding of clinical laboratory testing procedures across chemistry, hematology, or other relevant areas.

Proficiency in using multiple computer systems and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) standards.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Good communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and external clients.

Knowledge of safety standards and familiarity with safety equipment and manuals.

Nice to Have Skills:

Experience with chemistry testing and instrumentation.

Prior exposure to high-complexity testing in a clinical laboratory.

Familiarity with compliance standards related to laboratory accreditation.

Fluency in additional languages to support diverse patient populations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology preferred.

Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology accepted.

Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from recognized organizations such as ASCP or AMT.

Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity tests.

Valid state and/or national licensure as required.

Ability to handle multiple procedures simultaneously and establish priorities.

Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with departments and clients.

Demonstrated commitment to patient confidentiality and privacy.

Flexibility to work standard shifts, including possible weekends or overtime.

Physical ability to perform laboratory duties, including standing for extended periods, precise manual dexterity, and handling reagents and specimens.

Proven ability to adapt to new technologies and procedures through ongoing training.
