Overview:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will perform high-complexity laboratory tests critical for patient diagnosis and treatment. Your technical expertise and attention to detail will ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, supporting healthcare providers in making informed decisions. Responsibilities:

Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, and test analyses, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Maintain detailed records of patient test results, proficiency testing, quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.

Perform specimen analysis using approved testing protocols, adhering to SOPs and regulatory guidelines (CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA).

Review and verify test results prior to release, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Identify and troubleshoot problems affecting test performance, implementing corrective actions or notifying supervisors as required.

Document all corrective measures taken, maintaining compliance with laboratory quality assurance policies.

Communicate critical or STAT results promptly to healthcare providers, following departmental protocols.

Respond to inquiries from clients, healthcare professionals, or laboratory staff professionally and accurately.

Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled, with attention to expiration and received/opened dates.

Participate in training sessions on new procedures, attend monthly departmental meetings, and engage in ongoing safety and competency training.

Prepare for and participate in government or regulatory inspections when applicable.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all laboratory equipment and materials are well-maintained.

Assist with slide reading, hematology testing, and other high-complexity laboratory tasks as needed.

Keep abreast of current laboratory practices, technical updates, and safety procedures, including the location and proper use of safety equipment and manuals.

Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support laboratory operations and efficiency.

Required Skills:

Solid understanding of clinical laboratory testing, including hematology and slide reading.

Strong knowledge of quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and laboratory safety standards.

Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and computers; ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.

Excellent attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Good communication skills to interact with laboratory team members, healthcare providers, and clients.

Ability to handle multiple procedures simultaneously and work under deadlines.

Discretion and strict adherence to patient confidentiality and privacy protocols.

Nice to Have Skills:

Experience with high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory environment.

Familiarity with government or regulatory agency inspections.

Prior experience with hematology, slide reading, or similar specialized laboratory techniques.

Bilingual abilities or experience working with diverse patient populations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related fields is preferred.

Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with applicable clinical experience may be considered.

Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) from an accredited organization such as ASCP or AMT.

A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing.

Foreign-educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.-educated candidates should submit official transcripts.

Other Requirements:

Valid national certification (MT/MLT) and state licensure as applicable.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, and handle multiple procedures concurrently.

Must be physically capable of performing tasks that involve standing, bending, and fine motor skills.

Participation in ongoing safety training and departmental meetings.

Availability to work standard hours, with flexibility for occasional overtime if needed.
