Responsibilities:

Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reporting results, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Maintain meticulous records of patient test results, proficiency testing samples, and quality control activities.

Conduct tests on specimens using approved procedures outlined in department SOPs, ensuring adherence to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.

Review and release test results, ensuring correctness and timeliness.

Perform instrument calibrations, maintenance, and quality control documentation as per lab policies.

Identify and troubleshoot testing or reporting issues, implementing corrective actions and notifying supervisors when necessary.

Maintain compliance with safety protocols and participate in safety training and insurance inspections.

Respond to queries from lab personnel or clients as needed, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Ensure reagents and test kits are properly stored with valid expiration and open dates.

Stay current on new procedures through training and departmental meetings.

Support laboratory safety by knowing the location and proper use of safety equipment and manuals.

Assist in various laboratory duties to support smooth operations, including participating in regulatory inspections and performing other tasks as directed.

Required Skills:

Strong understanding of clinical laboratory testing principles, quality control, and quality assurance.

Proficiency in handling and analyzing specimens, with meticulous record-keeping.

Good computer skills and ability to work across multiple laboratory information systems.

Knowledge of safety standards, including CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.

Effective communication skills and a customer-service oriented attitude.

Ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple procedures simultaneously.

Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Nice to Have Skills:

Experience with high-complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting.

Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and automated testing systems.

Experience participating in regulatory inspections or audits.

Additional certifications such as MT/MLT from recognized organizations like ASCP or AMT.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology is preferred.

Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology accepted.

Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in a high-complexity testing environment.

Valid national certification (e.g., ASCP, AMT) and licensure as required by jurisdiction.

Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF. U.S.-educated candidates should submit detailed transcripts.

Other Requirements:

Ability to adapt to a schedule starting with training on a 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., Tuesday–Saturday shift; long-term schedule will be 4 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, interaction with multiple departments, and professional communication.

Maintain confidentiality and comply with all health and safety standards.

Physical requirements may include standing for extended periods and handling laboratory equipment safely.
