Clinical Nurse 2

The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• UC Davis Moderate Sedation Certification within 6 months of hire
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• At least three (3) years of recent RN experience in ambulatory care
• Recent RN experience in surgical specialty
• Recent RN experience with procedural compliance
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent RN experience in operating room or procedural room
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent RN experience with moderate sedation
• EPIC experience
• RN telephonic triage
• Experience providing patient education and caring for patients with Otolaryngology diagnosis.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
• Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC)
• American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Moderate Sedation Certification
• Bachelors of Science, Nursing (BSN)
• At least two (2) years of ENT ambulatory experience
• Experience and advanced understanding of the medical management of Otolaryngology diagnosis
• Experience providing patient education and caring for patients with Otolaryngology diagnosis
• Referral experience
• Knowledge and experience related to critical care and emergency situations
• Demonstrated critical thinking and situational awareness skills

The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center provides comprehensive clinical services to patients throughout Northern California, from the Oregon and Nevada borders to Fresno and the Bay Area. Our team of skilled physicians, residents and staff deliver outstanding patient care in our otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) clinic, which has more than 20,000 visits per year. With more than a dozen specialty areas providing the highest quality care for the full range of conditions and complex diseases in the head and neck region, our department offers specialized expertise and the latest in medical technologies and treatment approaches to achieve excellent outcomes. Located near downtown Sacramento, our clinic is also conveniently accessible from all the major highways that pass through the capital city.

Department Specific Job Scope

The Registered Nurse in the Otolaryngology support all three floors of the clinic of adult and pediatric patients. The RN will be responsible for referrals, telephone triage, clinical care coordination and support patient care in all procedural areas which includes: preop, postop, intraop, and moderate sedation, and other duties as assigned. This position provides detailed patient and family education, total comprehensive, continuous, and patient centered care which includes assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing care plan, delivering direct patient care, enduring patient satisfaction, training staff, and delegating duties, and adhering to university policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
