Inpatient Pharmacist

Job Description Summary MUSC Health is seeking a highly motivated Inpatient Pharmacist to join our academic medical center in a rotational shift role. This position supports medication‑use safety and clinical excellence across a diverse and complex inpatient population while working within a multidisciplinary, teaching‑focused environment. As part of MUSC Health—South Carolina’s only comprehensive academic health system, the inpatient pharmacist plays a key role in direct patient care, interprofessional collaboration, and support of the education mission for pharmacy learners. Key Responsibilities Review, verify, and clinically assess medication orders for appropriateness, safety, and efficacy Provide comprehensive inpatient clinical pharmacy services, including dosing optimization, renal/hepatic adjustments, antimicrobial stewardship support, and drug interaction management Serve as a medication therapy resource for physicians, residents, and other healthcare professionals Participate in medication reconciliation and transitions of care processes Support pharmacy operations to ensure timely and accurate medication distribution across inpatient units Oversee and support pharmacy technicians, including workflow coordination, troubleshooting, and verification support Perform order entry, product verification, and dispensing activities in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory standards Assist with management of medication shortages, formulary compliance, and therapeutic interchange as needed Document and communicate clinical and operational interventions in the electronic medical record and pharmacy systems Ensure compliance with MUSC Health policies, Joint Commission standards, and state and federal regulations Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and support MUSC’s academic mission, including interaction with pharmacy students and residents as appropriate Schedule Details Rotational shifts consisting of either five 8‑hour shifts or four 10‑hour shifts per week Shifts may vary between day and evening hours based on departmental needs Required to work weekend shifts on a rotating basis Holiday coverage included as part of the rotation Required Qualifications PharmD from an ACPE‑accredited college of pharmacy Active South Carolina pharmacist license or eligibility for licensure Ability to practice independently in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity inpatient environment Strong clinical knowledge, communication skills, and commitment to teamwork Preferred Qualifications PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or equivalent inpatient experience Prior experience in an academic medical center or tertiary care hospital Interest in precepting pharmacy students or residents What MUSC Health Offers Competitive salary Flexible rotational scheduling structure Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans Generous paid time off and holiday benefits Opportunities for professional growth, teaching, and involvement in academic initiatives Collaborative culture within a nationally recognized academic health system About MUSC Health MUSC Health is the clinical enterprise of the Medical University of South Carolina, delivering world‑class patient care, advancing research, and educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.
