The Company This is a large, privately held real estate company headquartered in the heart of Broward County. The organization spans multiple verticals, giving the accounting function a breadth that is genuinely uncommon at companies of this size. Private ownership means you operate without the noise of quarterly earnings cycles or Wall Street pressure. There is no Private Equity involved either. The Role The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller and serves as a key technical leader within the accounting function. You will own the integrity of the general ledger across multiple business divisions, lead month-end and year-end close, and serve as a primary point of contact for the annual audit. This is not a maintenance role. You will be expected to identify inefficiencies, improve processes, and elevate the analytical quality of what the team produces. You will also mentor and develop junior associates, which means your influence extends well beyond your own output. The Controller and CFO know who you are. Your work will be seen, and your voice will carry weight. What You Will Own Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple divisions. Prepare and review financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and variance analysis against budget and prior year. Oversee general ledger accuracy and consistency, ensuring all activity aligns with GAAP and internal control standards. Manage audit preparation and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors throughout the annual audit cycle (Over a decade of clean audits with NO material weakness). Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, improve procedures, and enhance the efficiency of the accounting function. Develop, document, and implement accounting policies and internal controls. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced members of the accounting team. Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, finance, and operational departments on special projects and company initiatives. Non-Negotiable Requirements 7 to 12 years of accounting experience, with the majority spent in public accounting. Prior supervisory or team leadership experience. Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
