Laboratory Technician Posting Number: S14972P Department: VetMed-Athens Diagnostic Lab Title: Medical Lab Technician II Employment Type: Full Time Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm Posting Date: April 8, 2026 Closing Date: April 26, 2026 Position Summary Performs a variety of routine and specialized molecular diagnostic laboratory assays requested by veterinary professionals in accordance with established protocols and procedures. Prepares specimens for testing, operates automated instrumentation, performs quality control and assurance procedures, records results, and follows all privacy, safety, and biohazard standards. Responsibilities Perform Molecular Diagnostic test procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of bacterial, viral, and fungal diseases of animals, including specimen preparation, nucleic acid extraction, quality assessment, PCR, documentation, and cross‑training in adjacent diagnostic areas. (85% of time) Interpret and report results: Review PCR results and controls, verify interpretations, enter results into the laboratory database, and send results to clients. (5% of time) Quality Control: Prepare and validate new lots and batches of PCR controls; document and maintain accurate records. (5% of time) General Lab Maintenance: Autoclave biohazard waste, wash glassware, restock supplies, conduct equipment maintenance, and other duties as assigned. (5% of time) Essential Functions Driving is a responsibility of this position. This is a position of trust. Has access to security‑sensitive materials (chemicals, agents). Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a microbiology, medical technology, veterinary diagnostic, commercial, or public health laboratory. Computer proficiency: Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat. Organizational and time‑management skills. Interpersonal skills: effective communication across diverse cultures. Technical laboratory skills: pipetting, autoclaving, handling bacterial cultures, biosafety, chemical safety, aseptic technique, PCR, gel running and interpretation.
