Job DescriptionPURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Coordinator III, Processing Operations Financial Aid (FA) plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and compliant processing of financial aid awards by utilizing specialized knowledge and technical skills. This position supports quality control and regulatory compliance through the review, analysis, and correction of student financial aid data. Working closely with internal departments and external regulatory agencies, the coordinator manages key processes such as data imports/exports for federal aid programs, resolution of system errors, and oversight of state and institutional programs including TEOG, TASFA, and Comment Code Conflict resolution.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Process, verify, analyze, and evaluate data and student records to determine financial aid eligibility
- Budget and package all approved Financial Aid awards, including Chancellor initiated scholarships, SULA review and PLUS review, and process disbursements appropriately
- Review and analyze a variety of data, information, and reports, calculate appropriate awards of funding
- Audits student files to ensure compliance with all appropriate rules and regulations, including federal, state, local, grant programs, LSC, etc.
- Assist campuses with problem resolution
- Acts as primary point-of-contact with third party servicers such as ProEd and oversee the DocuSign process
- Manages the TASFA program by downloading application files, training campus personnel, processing and verifying student information, and awarding funds in accordance with state and institutional guidelines
- Manages the TEOG program by working directly with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), overseeing fund allocations, awarding student aid, and ensuring accurate reconciliation of program funds
- Reviews and resolves SAR Comment Codes by collecting and evaluating sensitive documentation, working closely with external agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to ensure compliance and accurate student eligibility determination
- Assists campuses as needed with financial outreach efforts, including helping students complete the FAFSA, TASFA, and scholarship applications to increase access to financial aid and promote college affordability
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong knowledge of state and federal financial aid related regulations
- Proficiency in office software, including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
- Attention to accuracy and detail
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong computer literacy and database management skills
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be in good standing with the Department of Education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Recognized Financial Aid Credentials such as FAAC, CPCC, or NASFAA professional credentials
Hiring salary range is $48,152 - $55,375
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
