Records Clerk II Recruitment will close on August 5th or after 200 applications are received (whichever comes first). The City of Fountain Valley is nestled in the heart of Orange County. About the Position The Records Clerk II performs a variety of specialized clerical and administrative duties in support of Police Department operations. This position is responsible for processing, maintaining, and safeguarding confidential law enforcement records while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of official documents and information. Duties include preparing and managing reports and legal documents, entering and retrieving data from computerized systems, providing customer service to department personnel and the public, and assisting with court‑related processes, subpoenas, and records requests. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail‑oriented, committed to maintaining confidentiality, and able to provide exceptional customer service in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment where accuracy and professionalism are essential. Benefits CalPERS retirement / pension: 2% @ 60 for Classic or 2% @ 62 for PEPRA Flex dollars for CalPERS medical HMO/PPO plans (Tier III): $675 for Employee Only; $1,175 for Employee + 1 Dependent; or $1,450 for Employee + Family. Flex dollars are applied to medical, dental (mandatory), $50,000 life insurance (mandatory), and optional vision and AFLAC insurance. Matching deferred compensation contribution (up to $225 per month) City‑paid long‑term disability insurance Generous leave accruals 11 paid holidays, including one floating holiday Responsibilities Process, type, file, record, and retrieve a wide variety of police records, reports, forms, memos, letters, complaints, and court documents involving confidential information. Assemble and type materials from marginal notes, rough drafts, verbal instructions, transcribing equipment, or tapes and correct any errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Operate computer terminal to input, obtain, or extract pertinent data. Compile, tabulate, record, and check physical data and prepare for later reports. Assist departmental staff and the public in person, by phone, and at the front desk. Maintain the confidentiality of all information. Prepare document packages for court, transmit or physically deliver documents and other items to court and other designated locations. Complete Discovery at the request of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Communicate with employees and the Court regarding availability for subpoenas and court appearances. Log all traffic collision reports, keep statistics on traffic collisions, and prepare monthly traffic reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Education High school graduation or equivalent. Experience At least one (1) year of clerical experience, including typing, varied public contact, and operation of standard office equipment. Experience within a municipal government is desirable. Special Requirements Ability to work shift weekends and holidays as assigned. Ability to work mandatory overtime with short notice. Proof of typing speed at the time of application. A typing certificate from a recognized testing provider (e.g., Ratatype, TypingTest.com, or Typing.com) must show your name, words per minute (WPM), accuracy percentage, date completed, and be within the last 12 months.
