Engineering Lab Assistant/Tutor - Student

Job Responsibilities The STEP Engineering Lab Assistant/Tutor assists students with their lecture material, lab work and special projects during scheduled hours in the Engineering Lab. Assist and answer students’ questions concerning lecture material. Assist students in individual lab exercises. Assist students with special projects when feasible. Understand, obey, and enforce all safety and health regulations applicable in an engineering science laboratory. Operate, maintain, adjust and explain the use of equipment used in the Engineering Lab. Effectively interact and communicate with students, faculty and staff while performing duties. Fulfill student and institutional needs by maintaining a flexible work schedule assigned by the Engineering Program Director. Participate in required training. Qualifications Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester. Or current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award. Must have made a C or better in Engineering Physics I and Calculus II. Hands‑on work experience or direct interaction with the Engineering Professors required. Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, materials and procedures. Knowledge of safety and health procedures for handling hazardous chemicals and power equipment. Ability to orally communicate using the English language, laboratory procedures and theoretical concepts to an individual student or group of students. Positive human relations skills. Visual ability, corrected, to observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles that may cause injury to students and staff in the Engineering Lab. Must be able to perform required physical activities as described below. Physical Demands Occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force or lift 20‑50 pounds; frequently move around classroom and lab area. Communicate and listen to faculty, staff, students; frequently position self to work on equipment. Operate, inspect equipment, instruct students on equipment use. Be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, gases associated with engineering laboratory. Work indoors in classroom and lab areas. Work Hours 10–25 hours per week, flexible schedule; Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. #J-18808-Ljbffr Oklahoma City Community College
