Medical AssistantThe Medical Assistant will manage customer flow throughout the clinic. The Medical Assistant will assist providers in the management and treatment of customers. Customers come from various backgrounds and age groups requiring individualized care, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks as described in the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the roles of the supervising nurse and supervising provider, as described by relevant state boards. The Medical Assistant receives direction and collaborates with the clinic supervisor, clinic manager, and providers. Meeting the defined goals of customers and the organization is essential. Effective communication with the healthcare team regarding progress, concerns, questions, or problems is an essential element of the Medical Assistant role. The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and clerical tasks to assist with managing customer flow. Tasks include standard rooming processes, giving immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by the provider. The Medical Assistant may perform laboratory specimen collection as needed. Depending on the specialty and clinic location, the Medical Assistant may provide telephone support. Facilitating communication between customers and providers is also part of the role. Assisting with prescription refills is expected. If assigned, performing x-ray duties may be required if the individual has passed the x-ray operator exam. Phlebotomy duties may also be included. The Medical Assistant may perform clinic laboratory tests. Front desk/check-in support will be part of the responsibilities. Ordering and stocking supplies is essential. Assistance with prior authorizations may be required.
