The Brooklyn Economic Justice Project is building a community-centered economic infrastructure rooted in the values, leadership, and lived experiences of Central Brooklyn residents, small businesses, and grassroots organizations. Through its emerging community loan fund, BEJP seeks to expand access to non-extractive, relationship-based capital for small businesses, community-serving enterprises, cooperatives, and other neighborhood-rooted projects that advance economic justice, stability, and shared prosperity.

The BEJP Community Loan Fund is designed to support borrowers who are often excluded from traditional lending systems, while centering trust, community accountability, technical assistance, and democratic decision-making. The fund will prioritize businesses and projects that are rooted in Central Brooklyn, serve working families and neighborhood businesses across Central Brooklyn, and contribute to long-term community wealth building.

Position Summary: BEJP is seeking a Content and Video Fellow to tell the story of the Community Loan Fund through video and short-form content. Working with BEJP's Comms Team and the BEJP President and Fund Manager in partnership with the Fellow will concept, film, and edit content that highlights the people and businesses the fund supports and makes community lending easy to understand. This fellowship is ideal for someone interested in video production, on-camera storytelling, social media, community journalism, and economic justice.

What You'll Do

\n

Storytelling

\n

\n
• Develop video concepts and short scripts featuring Central Brooklyn small businesses, community leaders, residents, and partners.
\n
• Create short-form videos, interviews, and captions that explain why the fund exists and why it matters.
\n
• Document borrower and community stories respectfully, accurately, and with consent.
\n

Content Planning and Social Media

\n

\n
• Help build the monthly content calendar, with a focus on filming, editing, and posting timelines.
\n
• Produce and post video content for Instagram, Facebook, newsletters, the website, and event promotion.
\n
• Write captions, scripts, and hooks; engage with community accounts and partners; track what's resonating.
\n
• Follow the BEJP brand guide so voice, tone, and visuals stay consistent.
\n

Community Documentation

• Attend BEJP events, workshops, and outreach activities in Brooklyn to capture photos, video, and quotes.
\n
• Support same-day event promotion and create post-event recaps.
\n
• Keep organized records of footage, captions, consent information, and story ideas.
\n

\n

Messaging Support

\n

\n
• Help create plain-language explanations of non-extractive lending, community investment, and community wealth building.
\n
• Draft short blurbs, event descriptions, website copy, and talking points.
\n

\n

What You'll Bring

\n

• Ability to develop content concepts from creative direction and storytelling needs.
\n
• Comfort on camera and the ability to explain what BEJP does in a clear, engaging way.
\n
• Video editing skills, including proficiency with CapCut or similar software.
\n
• Experience managing or contributing to social media for an organization, campaign, small business, artist, or community project.
\n
• Strong writing and listening skills, and respect for community voice and lived experience.
\n
• Organization, follow-through, and the ability to work independently with guidance and feedback.
\n
• Ability to work with the Branding and Visual Communication Fellow to get design assets and keep the brand consistent.
\n
• Residence in NYC and familiarity with Central Brooklyn's neighborhoods, small businesses, and cultural institutions.
\n
• Commitment to racial, economic, and social justice.
\n

• Experience with events, outreach campaigns, community organizing, or public education.

• Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to Central Brooklyn communities.

Fellowship Structure \n

This is a 7-month fellowship with a total stipend of $7,500. The Fellow will report directly to the BEJP President and will receive regular supervision, training, and feedback.

\n

\n

The fellowship is expected to include a mix of remote administrative work, in-person community engagement, borrower meetings, and BEJP-related events. Because this role is rooted in Central Brooklyn, the Fellow must be available for some in-person meetings, community events, and borrower-facing activities in Brooklyn.

\n

\n

Expected time commitment may vary depending on the phase of the loan fund launch, but the fellowship is designed as a part-time learning and work opportunity consisting of 10-15 hours of work per week.

Compensation \n

The Community Lending Fellow will receive a total stipend of $7,500 for the 7-month fellowship. Payment timing will be determined by BEJP and communicated before the fellowship begins.

Location Requirement \n

Applicants must reside in New York City. Strong preference will be given to candidates who live in, have lived in, work in, organize in, or have deep familiarity with Central Brooklyn.
