RN New Graduate Nurse- Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit

Job Description New Graduate RN needed for the new Intermediate Neurosciences and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. This is a 36 hour/week position, day/night and weekend rotation. The position offers an excellent benefits package and incentives to eligible applicants. The brand new unit is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2026. Our Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit (INEU) team consists of professionals who approach their work with positivity, compassion, and a strong sense of teamwork. The unit has 18 beds, including 4 designed for epilepsy monitoring. Patients include those with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, epilepsy, spine injury, neuromuscular and neurodegenerative illnesses, neurotrauma, and central nervous system infections. ENT patients are predominantly head and neck malignancies and require a variety of surgical interventions involving the head, mouth, tongue, jaw, thyroid, and oropharynx. Our physician teams are nationally recognized innovators in NeuroCare and Head and Neck Surgical Oncology. Eligible applicants must be a new grad nurse currently in their final semester of nursing school or who has graduated within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and has worked as an RN for less than 6 months. Applicants must have their RN license and be able to practice in North Carolina prior to the first day of employment. Responsibilities Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers; assess developmental level of patients and factors affecting ability to learn. Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance as needed; participate in interdisciplinary team discussions; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing as required; utilize nursing standards, policies, and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult appropriate resources for complex issues, unusual teaching needs, or high‑risk discharge planning. Develop professional growth goals with assistance; achieve goals within identified time frame or renegotiate with supervisor; participate in intra/interdepartmental collaboration and unit performance improvement activities; effectively use communication systems; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback to coworkers; remain aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines; promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment. Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities; include appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; synthesize assessment data into a meaningful whole; assess and anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families to promote advocacy. Collaborate with patient and family to prepare or update the plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; communicate planning effectively; identify and address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Read journals for applicable studies or articles; bring ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure & Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
