RN Clinical Nurse II-Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit Nights

Experienced Nurses needed for the new Intermediate Neurosciences and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. This is a 36 hour/week Night Shift position with weekend rotation, flexible self‑scheduling, and eligibility for an extensive benefit package. The unit is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2026. The Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit (INEU) team consists of professionals who approach their work with positivity, compassion, and a strong sense of teamwork. The unit has 18 beds available, including 4 dedicated for epilepsy monitoring. It cares for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, epilepsy, spine injury, neuromuscular illness, neurodegenerative illness, neurotrauma, and central nervous system infections. ENT patients present primarily with head and neck malignancies requiring various surgical interventions. Our physician teams are nationally recognized as innovators in NeuroCare and Head and Neck Surgical Oncology. Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reports to the Nurse Manager/Director and is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participates in identifying and meeting personal learning needs, attends education programs, uses patient education materials, assesses readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers, and evaluates developmental level of patient and factors affecting learning. Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance in revising care plans, discusses patient care with the interdisciplinary team, and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point‑of‑care testing as required, and applies organization policies and procedures. Organizes and prioritizes care, consults appropriate resources for complex or high‑risk discharge planning. Leadership – Develops professional growth goals, achieves objectives within timelines, participates in intra‑/interdepartmental collaboration, supports unit goals and performance improvement, promotes cost‑effective care, gives feedback, and maintains awareness of public policy and regulatory guidelines. Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities, includes physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs, synthesizes assessment data, and anticipates discharge needs. Planning – Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update care plans, utilizes multidisciplinary resources, and considers cultural and ethnic issues. Prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems. Research – Reads relevant journals and brings applicable ideas to staff for assessment of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January62014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
