Sign Language Interpreter in Overland Park, KS

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity working closely with students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a supportive school setting near Overland Park, KS. This long-term assignment runs from August 3, 2026, through May 21, 2027, offering the chance to make a real impact over the course of an academic year. You'll play a pivotal role in facilitating communication for Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals, ensuring every student receives the access and support they need to thrive.
In this position, you'll work a consistent 37.5-hour week, primarily supporting two elementary-aged students in daily interactions. You'll act as the bridge between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL), interpreting in classroom and school-related environments, while upholding absolute confidentiality and the highest ethical standards.
Key Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (must be provided when applying)
- Prior experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Proficiency in ASL and an understanding of Deaf culture
- Demonstrated commitment to professionalism and confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic and inclusive academic environment
- Translate spoken English to ASL and vice versa in a variety of school settings
- Ensure accurate communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff
- Maintain strict confidentiality about student information
- Exhibit cultural sensitivity and respect in all interactions
- Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
- Support students' access to curriculum and participation in school activities
