Job Posting Jun. 4, 2026 About Orienta Beach Club Established in 1924, Orienta Beach Club is a private, member-owned, non-profit club located on the beautiful shores of Long Island Sound in Mamaroneck, New York, just 20 miles from New York City. The Club is a multi-generational, family-oriented community offering exceptional dining, tennis, swimming, beach, and social experiences. Members enjoy a beautiful year-round clubhouse, waterfront dining venues, banquet facilities, and breathtaking views of Long Island Sound. Position Summary The Sous Chef serves as the second-in-command of the culinary operation and works closely with the Executive Chef in overseeing all kitchen activities. This position is responsible for supervising food production, leading kitchen staff, maintaining quality standards, controlling costs, and ensuring consistent execution across all dining outlets, special events, and banquet functions. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to excellence in food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and team development. Essential Responsibilities Culinary Operations Supervise and participate in the preparation of soups, sauces, daily specials, and menu items in accordance with established recipes and standards. Ensure proper cooking methods, portion control, garnishing, and presentation. Maintain th e highest standards of food quality, consistency, flavor, andappearance. Expedite food production during peak service periods. Inspect mise en place and food presentation prior to service. Work any kitchen station as required to support daily operations. Leadership & Team Development Assist the Executive Chef in supervising, training, coaching, and evaluating kitchen personnel. Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Assist in developing training programs and professional growth opportunities for culinary staff. Conduct and participate in daily pre-service meetings with front-of-house leadership. Monitor employee scheduling and labor productivity to ensure operational efficiency. Financial & Administrative Management Assist with monthly inventories and food cost controls. Support purchasing, receiving, storage, and issuance of food products. Assist with menu costing, requisitions, scheduling, and operational reporting. Monitor labor and food costs while maintaining quality standards. Recommend operational improvements and assist in achieving departmental goals. Kitchen Management & Safety Assume full responsibility for kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef. Maintain high standards of sanitation, cleanliness, and workplace safety. Ensure compliance with health department regulations and Club policies. Assist in safeguarding food inventories, equipment, and supplies. Recommend maintenance, repair, and replacement of kitchen equipment as needed. Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years of progressive culinary leadership experience, preferably in a private club, luxury hospitality, resort, or high-volume restaurant environment. Strong knowledge of food preparation, menu development, kitchen operations, and cost control. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop culinary teams. Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining exceptional standards. Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience preferred. Food Safety Certification required (or ability to obtain).
