Payroll Accountant

Red Bank, NJ Area | Onsite | Full-Time

We are partnering with a well-established organization in the Red Bank, NJ area seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll Accountant to join their accounting team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple entities, including nonprofit and for-profit organizations, while playing a key role in payroll tax compliance, financial reporting, treasury management, and month-end close activities.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, payroll tax expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll & Tax Compliance

• Prepare and process daily payroll tax filings and payments
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• Perform monthly reconciliations with a strong focus on payroll, benefits, and tax-related accounts
• Support payroll accounting activities and related reporting requirements

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Manage full-cycle accounting and financial reporting across multiple entities
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statements
• Perform month-end close activities and variance analysis
• Handle intercompany transactions and monthly billings
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies

Treasury & Cash Management

• Maintain banking relationships and oversee treasury operations
• Manage ACH activity, cash flow, and daily cash management processes
• Monitor and maintain accurate trust fund and investment records
• Oversee daily interest accruals and support jumbo CD investment activities

Audit, Controls & Planning

• Coordinate with external auditors, banking partners, insurance providers, and internal stakeholders
• Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
• Strengthen internal controls, payment authorization procedures, and fraud prevention initiatives
• Support process improvements and operational efficiencies

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Strong experience with payroll tax filings, payments, and reconciliations
• Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close
• Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of treasury management and cash flow processes
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy
• Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems
