AJ Chambers are delighted to be working with a highly regarded New York law firm seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Attorney, Restructuring Attorney or Bankruptcy Member to join its growing bankruptcy, restructuring and insolvency practice.

This opportunity is suited to a senior attorney with 7+ years of bankruptcy, restructuring, insolvency and related commercial litigation experience who is looking to take significant responsibility for sophisticated Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 matters while working directly with clients and playing a meaningful role in case strategy.

The practice represents a broad range of stakeholders in corporate bankruptcy, business restructuring, insolvency proceedings and distressed situations, including debtors, creditors, trustees, secured lenders, private equity funds, hedge funds, landlords, tenants and other financial and commercial stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage sophisticated Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 matters
• Advise clients on bankruptcy, restructuring and insolvency strategy
• Represent debtors, creditors, trustees, lenders and other stakeholders
• Develop case strategy and litigation strategy
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs and other bankruptcy filings
• Handle claim objections and plan confirmation matters
• Conduct negotiations with opposing counsel and other stakeholders
• Handle bankruptcy related litigation and contested matters
• Advise clients on restructuring and workout alternatives
• Handle or advise on distressed asset transactions
• Work directly with clients and develop long-term client relationships
• Manage matters independently with significant individual responsibility
• Collaborate with other attorneys across bankruptcy, restructuring and commercial litigation matters

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of legal experience
• Significant experience in bankruptcy, restructuring and/or insolvency
• Strong Chapter 11 and/or Chapter 7 experience
• Experience handling sophisticated bankruptcy or restructuring matters
• Strong litigation, drafting and negotiation skills
• Ability to manage complex matters independently
• Experience working directly with clients and developing case strategy
• Strong courtroom and advocacy skills
• New York Bar admission required
• Portable business required

Portable Book of Business

The firm is seeking an attorney with an established client base and portable business.

A portable book of approximately $500,000 is highly valued, but the firm is willing to consider candidates with a smaller book where there is a strong overall fit.

Candidates should be prepared to discuss:

• Current portable book of business
• Annual billings
• Client relationships
• Originations
• Bankruptcy/restructuring practice mix
• Potential for future business generation

Compensation

• $300,000-$400,000 base compensation, depending on experience and qualifications
• Additional compensation opportunities based on business generation and overall contribution
