Human Resources Generalist

Atrium is seeking on behalf of our client a HR Generalist based in Asbury Park, NJ . A background check may be run only after a conditional offer is made, where permitted by law . Position: HR Generalist Location: Asbury Park, NJ Employment Type: Full-time Compensation: up to 80k Position Overview The HR Generalist will serve as the organization’s dedicated HR professional, managing the full employee lifecycle for office and field employees. This role partners with leadership to support culture and engagement initiatives while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Responsibilities Manage full-cycle recruiting for office and field roles Lead onboarding processes, including pre-employment screenings, paperwork, and systems setup Administer union personnel onboarding and ensure proper documentation and classification Oversee offboarding processes, including exit logistics and benefits transitions Process payroll, including union payroll Maintain personnel records and update HR policies and employee handbook Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws and federal-contractor obligations Administer benefits programs and coordinate with plan administrators Support employee engagement, recognition, and communication initiatives Serve as a resource for employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution Assist with performance management processes and documentation Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and OSHA recordkeeping Required Experience/Skills 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience, ideally as a sole HR practitioner or in a small HR team Knowledge of federal and New Jersey employment law and compliance requirements Experience with payroll processing and HRIS systems, preferably UKG Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to build trust across teams Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license Preferred Experience/Skills Experience in construction, heavy civil, or federal/state contracting environments SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification Background in employee engagement and culture-building initiatives Familiarity with union labor processes and compliance Ability to identify and implement process improvements Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred Equivalent experience considered Professional HR certification (SHRM or HRCI) a plus Continuing education in employment law and compliance recommended If eligible under the ACA, medical, dental and vision benefits and time off in accordance with local paid sick time laws will be offered.
