26-27 PowerPlay Development and Grants Associate VISTA

Overview PowerPlay NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the lives of girls through sports. For nearly 30 years, we have provided free, sports-based after-school and summer programs to youth from under-resourced communities across New York City. Our mission is to help girls grow physically, emotionally, and academically stronger by combining athletic instruction with mentorship and social-emotional learning (SEL) skill development. Our flagship STARS (Sports Training and Role-models for Success) Series program engages girls ages 5–14 in structured sports programming designed to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership. The VISTA will support the expansion and sustainability of our programming via the Development Department, with a focus on fundraising, partnership development, and program capacity building—particularly for seasonal initiatives like our Spring Soccer program. This role is ideal for someone passionate about youth development and community impact. Candidates will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, and strategic planning while contributing to a mission-driven organization with citywide impact. Member Duties The VISTA will be part of the 26-27 Coach Across America national VISTA cohort of 64 members. The VISTA will build PowerPlay’s capacity by supporting fundraising, partnership development, and program expansion. Responsibilities include researching (prospecting) grant proposals, managing donor databases, assisting with fundraising campaigns, and developing outreach materials. The member will help strengthen relationships with schools, community partners, and corporate sponsors, and organize data tracking and impact reporting. Additionally, they will contribute to planning and resource development for seasonal programs throughout FY27. Through these efforts, the VISTA will help increase access to high-quality sports and youth development programming for girls across NYC.
