Assistant Closing Manager Full Time

Job Summary Working closely with the Closing Manager, the Assistant Closing Manager provides leadership and direction within the club and drives club performance. They oversee the Recovery, Utility, and Perishable departments (Produce, Meat, Bakery, Deli, Dairy/Freezer) as well as overnight prep to ensure all areas are clean, stocked, and ready for morning open. In addition to team leadership, the Manager maintains policies and procedures, delivers a positive service experience to members, provides Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) club conditions, and directs club operations. The Assistant Closing Manager assists in audit compliance, drives collaboration with Business Partners, and oversees onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence. This role serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the club as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations and Member engagement during assigned shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required, along with a forklift license and, if in Florida, a propane qualifier certification. Monitor member engagement and department execution to ensure a premium shopping experience. Support and resolve member concerns to deliver satisfaction. Consistently Run Great Clubs with Great Standards Maintain Club Standards by consistently delivering GOLD Standards. Ensure the club meets or exceeds all Bottom Quartile core KPIs relevant to the role. Achieve Financial Performance Maintain cost discipline by meeting or exceeding labor and supply plans. Use reporting to identify trends and opportunities to drive performance and profitability. Acquire a deep knowledge of key metrics and reporting for total club and department performance. Major Tasks, Responsibilities, And Key Accountabilities Own end‑of‑day execution and oversee Recovery, Utility, and Perishable departments plus overnight prep. Lead by presence, walk the floor during closing hours to observe execution and engage with members and team. Maintain GOLD Standards through closing, ensuring a GAA and Fast, Friendly, Full, Fresh, Clean experience until the last member exits. Keep essential functions operational; validate registers, perishable stations, and service areas during final transactions. Resolve or elevate member concerns during closing to ensure satisfaction and timely service recovery. Monitor inventory levels, product rotation, culling, and merchandising execution with focus on perishable departments. Confirm completion of sanitation, cleaning logs, waste pulls, and safety protocols to protect compliance. Coach Recovery and Utility clerks to ensure efficient task execution and zone coverage during closing. Leverage Hot List, NAFS, electronic reports, price sign reports, pallet tags, dashboards, and department‑level reporting to validate execution. Ensure audit readiness by completing all sanitation, cold chain, and safety checklists daily. Identify and report equipment issues such as compactors, refrigeration units, and cleaning equipment. Reinforce ServSafe, PPE compliance, and department training during onboarding and ongoing development. Support bottom‑quartile departments to close performance gaps and improve action plans. Collaborate cross‑functionally with the Closing Manager, Assistant Club Managers, Club Manager, and Department Leads. Conduct quality and date checks, removing damaged or outdated products to uphold food safety standards. Execute assigned tasks on BJ’s MY WORK system, ensuring compliance with company initiatives and product liability protocols. Perform other duties as assigned, including outside the primary scope, to support club leadership. Operate safely and efficiently, following all safety protocols and procedures. Job Conditions Frequent movement on hard surfaces and occasional bending, pulling, and reaching. Regular lifting of up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance. Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises within perishable areas. Potential exposure to cleaning agents. Must maintain all training and required certifications.
