Dialysis Charge Registered Nurse - RN

Overview Purpose and Scope: Works with the Facility Manager, facility staff and physician to coordinate the facility operations and patient procedures to ensure provision of quality patient care on a daily basis in accordance with organization policies, procedures and training. Provides nursing support to patients and staff. Assist with staffing, staff training, equipment, physician and patient relations, cost containment, supply management, medical records, patient billing, OSHA and all company, state and federal compliance. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Support and drive organization quality standards through meeting regulatory requirements and the practice of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including use of organization CQI tools. Accountable for outstanding quality of patient care, as defined by the organization quality goals, by working with the Vice President of Quality and other organization management to ensure that organization/ASC policies and procedures are followed. Aggressively address and act on adverse events and action thresholds, and comply with all data collections and auditing activities while maintaining integrity of medical records and other organization administrative and operational records. Supervise and direct facility staff in providing safe and effective vascular access procedures to patients in compliance with facility policy and procedures, medical regulations and federal & state agencies. Assign and delegate tasks to all direct patient care staff, including Staff RNs, Radiology Technologists, Front Desk Coordinator. Ensure adequate staffing through daily management of staff schedule, including breaks; assess daily patient needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments appropriately. Monitor patient care staff for appropriate techniques and adherence to policy and assist as necessary. Recommend and initiate disciplinary action in conjunction with the Facility Manager and assist with staff performance evaluations. Participate in selection, orientation and training of staff as assigned; perform and set up in‑services regarding equipment, supplies and clinical issues for all staff. Coordinate all aspects of patient care with appropriate staff members, from admission through discharge; ensure patients and families are educated regarding pre‑ and post‑procedure care of vascular access. Ensure procedure scheduling is timely and facility capacity is utilized efficiently; assist with patient workflow, including providing direct patient care and monitoring pre‑, intra‑ and post‑procedure. Oversee accurate and complete documentation of patient treatments from admission to discharge; confirm written orders, consents and lab work are completed and documented in accordance with facility policies. Prepare lab requisitions, deliver to appropriate labs, report and forward results to the appropriate physician. Assume primary responsibility in emergency situations, maintaining competency with all emergency operating procedures, and initiating CPR and emergency measures as needed. Administer medications and IV conscious sedation per physician orders, complying with company, federal, state and local regulations. Attend and participate in Governing Body and CQI meetings with physicians, assisting with meeting agenda, gathering of data/material and reporting on assigned topics. Ensure appropriate operation of facility equipment and technology, including patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices and computers. Maintain a clean, safe and sanitary environment, regularly inspecting equipment and operation systems, reporting malfunctions or maintenance issues. Address blood spills immediately according to organization Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies. Participate in cost‑control initiatives; manage efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies and equipment to achieve supply cost goals. Assist in development and revision of applicable policies and procedures for continuous process improvement. Initiate, document and complete ongoing CQI activities including monthly reports and attend meetings as required. Manage medication ordering, receiving, inventory control and checking for expired medications, including appropriate recording of controlled substances. Maintain usage logs for all medications, document drug disposal, and communicate with pharmacist to assure medication accuracy. Ensure medical records are accurate, complete and in compliance with organization policies before patient discharge; perform chart audits regularly. Participate in all facility regulatory and accreditation surveys; develop action plans to address any deficiencies identified. Verify records for all implanted devices are completed accurately, timely and maintained according to records management guidelines. Act as the Facility Manager in the manager’s absence or at direction of organization management; assume governing body positions or oversee staff delegated to positions. Comply with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient information and medical records. Maintain CLIA license with Facility Administrator. Perform additional duties within scope of practice and state regulations, and additional responsibilities as needed, possibly focusing on specific departments or locations. Physical Demands and Working Conditions The position requires desk and personal computer work and interaction with patients, facility staff and physicians. The position may require travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community, and may require travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels, and may involve exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. Supervision Directs facility staff: Staff RNs, LPNs, Radiology Technologists, Surgical personnel, and Front Desk Coordinator. Education Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.). Current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification. ASC certification preferred. Experience and Required Skills Minimum of three years’ experience preferred in an Ambulatory Surgical Center/Vascular Access Lab or a combination of ASC, surgical, Interventional Radiology and ICU/CCU experience. Minimum of three years of Interventional Radiology, scrub experience preferred. Supervisory or management experience within a medical or vascular access environment preferred. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and experience with medical database software are required. Demonstrated management skills necessary to provide leadership and supervision of facility personnel and ensure delivery of maximum quality care to all patients. Good verbal and written communication skills. Certified in BLS & ACLS with successfully completed course certifications. Salary and Compensation The rate of pay for this position will depend on the successful candidate’s work location and qualifications, including relevant education, work experience, skills and competencies. Annual rate: $75,000.00 – $126,000.00.
