Insurance Defense AttorneyPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Defense Attorney to represent insurer clients in civil litigation arising from automobile and other liability claims. The attorney will manage a caseload of defense matters, conduct thorough coverage and liability analyses, handle discovery and motion practice, negotiate settlements, and, when necessary, try cases. The ideal candidate is experienced with insurance defense, comfortable in both written advocacy and courtroom settings, and committed to delivering practical, cost-effective legal solutions for clients and claims handlers.Key ResponsibilitiesManage a docket of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution, including automobile liability and other third-party claims.Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings, with attention to persuasive written advocacy and procedural compliance.Handle all aspects of discovery: draft and respond to interrogatories, requests for production and admissions; coordinate document collection; prepare and defend depositions.Develop and execute motion practice strategies, including dispositive and evidentiary motions, and attend hearings to advocate on behalf of insurer clients.Analyze coverage issues and advise claims handlers on potential coverage defenses, reservation of rights, and indemnity/excess exposure.Draft and review settlement demands and releases; negotiate resolutions that align with clients objectives and litigation strategy.Prepare witnesses, experts, and exhibits for trial; try cases when necessary and work with co-counsel or local counsel as required.Maintain clear and timely communication with insurer clients, claims adjusters, and vendors; provide strategic case updates and cost estimates.Manage case budgets and billing in accordance with client guidelines, pro-actively identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficient resolution.Mentor and supervise junior attorneys and paralegals, contributing to a collaborative and professional team environment.QualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the PA bar; bonus points for NJ bar admissionMinimum 3-5+ years of litigation experience with a significant focus on insurance defense; experience handling automobile liability cases strongly preferred.Demonstrated expertise in coverage analysis and insurance policy interpretation.Proven experience in motion practice, discovery management, and courtroom advocacy; trial experience preferred.Strong legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills with a track record of producing clear, professional court filings.Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills; ability to work directly with claims adjusters, clients, and experts.Ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work product.BenefitsMedical insuranceDental insuranceVision insuranceRetirement benefitsPaid vacation and PTOHybrid flexibility
