Phlebotomist – PCA Lake Otis – Anchorage, Alaska Full‑time – Salary Range: $20.00–$30.50 hourly. Full‑time Benefits include: Complimentary orthopedic and primary care at OPA and PCA Medical and dental insurance coverage beginning within 30 days Life insurance Disability insurance 401K Profit sharing Employee Assistance Program Paid time off starting at three weeks per year 7 paid holidays per year Competitive pay and annual compensation reviews Schedule Monday – Friday (Hours vary; 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm) Responsibilities This laboratory position can be fulfilled by a phlebotomist, EMT, or medical assistant. Key duties include: Perform phlebotomy from patients and ensure proper patient identification. Instruct patients on special procedures such as fasting requirements, routine urinalysis, stool specimen, and 24‑hour urine collection. Evaluate specimens for integrity and verify proper specimen labeling. Verify patient demographic and insurance information in the Electronic Health Record system. Communicate with patients, answer questions, and provide useful information. Complete all necessary test requisitions for in‑house and reference labs. Adhere to and observe universal precautions while working with patients and processing specimens. Calibrate audiogram and pulmonary function machines each morning prior to patient testing. Explain eye examination, ECGs, pulmonary function test, audiogram, and drug screen testing procedures to patients. Monitor patient and instrument while tests are in progress. Complete all necessary documentation and paperwork for employer services and private patients. Maintain back‑office equipment in a clean, safe condition and according to manufacturer specifications. Respect patients’ rights to privacy and confidentiality. Maintain appropriate communication and interpersonal skills with manager, staff, providers, and patients to ensure coordinated efforts and high‑quality service. Report directly to the department supervisor/manager to discuss concerns, personal requests, and patient issues. Maintain an orderly and professional work environment. Report to work properly dressed according to the approved dress code. Adhere to guidelines concerning scheduled working hours and break periods. Participate in education programs needed for recertification, departmental meetings, and workshops as offered. Provide support to colleagues by offering help. Assist in solving problems as directed by supervisor. Conduct weekly supply inventory to ensure sufficient quantity for departmental needs. Verify department supply deliveries with packing slips. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. One or more of the following certifications: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited program. Phlebotomy Technician/Phlebotomist certification (ASCP, AMT). EMT license/certification (military training acceptable). Preferred Qualifications One year of experience in a fast‑paced, professional environment such as a clinic, hospital, or laboratory (or equivalent education/training). Associate degree from a university or community college.
