License: Certified MT or MLS

Certifications: ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent

Must-Have: Blood bank and micro experience preferred

Description: Under the direction of supervisors, responsible for the prompt and accurate performance of assigned work. Performs analyses on blood and other body fluids for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Maintains proficiency to work in all clinical departments of the laboratory. Communicates effectively and maintains good rapport with all departments and staff. Prepares specimens for processing by accurately identifying and logging information. Processes and begins analysis of all specimens to determine results for efficient reporting. Assures quality control criteria are met before releasing any reports. Repeats procedures that appear to be out of control following established protocol. Keeps work organized to avoid confusion and potential errors. Reviews results for accuracy and completeness before releasing. Requests new specimens when appropriate for inconsistent results. Seeks assistance from supervisors for difficulties in identification, interpretation, or processing. Assists with the training of technical personnel as requested by supervisors. Participates in proficiency testing or quality assurance activities as instructed. Maintains knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures as well as performance standards. Demonstrates compliance with safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures. Communicates potential hazards noted to supervisors. Suggests ways to improve laboratory services when appropriate. Complies with patient information release policies and documentation requirements. Maintains departmental equipment and supplies in working condition. Checks instrument performance daily and communicates any problems promptly. Troubleshoots both instrumental and procedural problems as they arise. Maintains sufficient inventory of reagents and supplies at all times. Submits requests to supervisors when additional materials are anticipated. Maintains cost control in the utilization of materials. Rotates, dates, and tests reagents to ensure accuracy and availability. Assists with implementation of new procedures or evaluation of new products. Evaluates new products and provides written information regarding findings to supervisors. Suggests changes in methodologies or workflow to increase accuracy and efficiency. Performs specimen collection duties and verifies patient identification. Responds promptly to requests for specimen collections and communicates delays effectively. Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned and assists co-workers when needed.
