Job Title: Medical Assembler

Job Description

The Medical Assembler plays a key role in producing precision components used in life-saving and life-improving medical devices. You will work primarily in a cleanroom environment, assembling, inspecting, and finishing very small parts using microscopes, specialized machinery, and fine hand tools. This role offers comprehensive cross-training across multiple departments, including coiling, molding, CEA assembly, laser welding, and implantable housings, giving you the opportunity to develop a broad and valuable skill set in medical device manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Perform coil winding operations in a cleanroom environment, including loading coils onto winding mechanisms and operating coil winding machines to wrap coils around spindles for further assembly processes.
• Use microscopes 30–50% of the day in advanced coiling operations to inspect, cut, and manipulate fine wires used in medical products such as stents, catheters, and leads.
• Sit and stand for extended periods, including up to 8 hours per shift, depending on the specific assembly process and department.
• Work in the molding area to inspect and deburr parts as they come off molding machines, smoothing surfaces and removing excess material using tools such as pliers, files, and knives.
• Perform repetitive, detailed work in cleanroom molding operations while maintaining consistent quality and adherence to process standards.
• Assemble components in CEA assembly lines (1–6), each dedicated to specific medical products, by following travelers and written work instructions.
• Use microscopes for approximately 60% of the shift in CEA assembly to perform fine, detailed assembly work on very small components.
• Work with small hand tools such as tweezers, pliers, files, and small wrenches to assemble medical components both under microscopes and with the naked eye.
• Transition into the laser welding area after gaining experience on multiple lines, operating laser welding machines and microscopes to weld and finish extremely small medical components.
• Maintain very high attention to detail and excellent hand dexterity when performing laser welding and other fine assembly tasks.
• Operate automated presses and stamping machines in the implantable housings area to produce small metal parts and casings for implantable medical devices.
• Load materials into machines, run them through the required processes, and remove finished parts for inspection and further processing.
• Inspect parts for accuracy and quality, deburr and file down components to remove excess material, and use microscopes as needed (up to 50% of the day) during inspection and finishing.
• Adapt to varying physical demands, including days spent primarily on your feet and days spent mostly sitting, while maintaining productivity and focus.
• Work with parts approximately the size of a pen tip, ensuring precise handling and assembly of very small components.
• Use machines and automated equipment to aid in assembly processes while following all safety and operational guidelines.
• Build and assemble medical components and parts according to detailed written work instructions and standardized procedures.
• Follow cleanroom protocols, including proper gowning procedures and handling of materials to maintain product integrity and cleanliness.
• Demonstrate adaptability by learning and performing tasks across multiple lines and departments as part of a cross-training program.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance with all manufacturing and documentation requirements.

Essential Skills

• 4–6+ months of experience in medical manufacturing or small-part manufacturing environments.
• 4–6+ months of experience working with microscopes, preferably in assembly or inspection roles.
• Demonstrated hand dexterity and fine motor skills, suitable for working with very small components and detailed assembly tasks.
• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment, including following gowning procedures and cleanliness standards.
• Experience using small hand tools such as tweezers, pliers, files, knives, and small wrenches in an assembly or manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with parts approximately the size of a pen tip and performing precision work under microscopes.
• Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per shift and adapt to changing physical demands day to day.
• Capability to follow written work instructions and travelers accurately and consistently.
• Attention to detail and quality focus, especially when inspecting, deburring, and finishing small parts.
• Adaptability and openness to cross-training on multiple lines and in different departments.
• Mechanical aptitude, particularly for roles in the housings area that involve working with presses, stamping machines, and other mechanical equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in medical device assembly, medical device manufacturing, or microscope-based assembly is highly beneficial.
• Experience in laser welding, coil winding, cleanroom assembly, or microscope assembly is a strong plus.
• Any experience with sewing or other activities requiring fine hand dexterity can translate well to this role.
• Comfort working with repetitive tasks while maintaining concentration and accuracy.
• Willingness to work with both cleanroom and non-cleanroom processes, including exposure to machine noise and mild industrial odors.
• Ability to work safely around automated presses, stamping machines, and other production equipment.
• Strong adaptability and versatility, with the willingness to move between different lines and areas as business needs require.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a very clean, modern facility with both cleanroom and non-cleanroom areas. Many roles are based in a cleanroom environment where you will gown up before entering, including wearing a smock, booties, hair net, and beard net if applicable, along with eye protection. Makeup and jewelry are permitted in the cleanroom, provided they meet safety and cleanliness standards. In these areas, work is typically quiet and controlled, with a focus on precision and cleanliness. Other positions are located in the non-cleanroom housings area, which is louder due to the presence of automated presses and stamping machines and has a slight oil smell that most people become accustomed to within about a week. Eye glasses are required at all times in this area, and steel-toed shoe covers are provided due to the machinery in use. Ear plugs are available for those who prefer them. Across all departments, you must be comfortable with a mix of sitting and standing, which can vary day to day, including shifts where you may be on your feet for up to 8 hours or seated for most of the day. The dress code supports both safety and inclusivity: skirts are allowed on the floor as long as no skin is exposed (pants or leggings must be worn underneath), and hijabs are welcome, provided they are athletic styles that can be tucked into a shirt for safety. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.53/hr.
