We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a short-term Contract position based in Birmingham, Alabama. This role will play an important part in an audit while maintaining accurate financial records, managing close activities, and ensuring balance sheet integrity. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge and a hands-on approach to reconciliations, journal preparation, and general ledger oversight.

Responsibilities:

• Lead monthly close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure timely financial reporting.

• Maintain the general ledger with a high level of accuracy by recording and reviewing financial transactions.

• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate support and alignment to accounting standards and company policy.

• Perform detailed account reconciliations to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and support clean financial statements.

• Complete bank reconciliations regularly to confirm cash activity and investigate outstanding items.

• Analyze account balances and variances, then communicate findings and recommended corrections to stakeholders.

• Support documentation and audit readiness by organizing reconciliations, entries, and other accounting records.

• Collaborate with internal teams to improve the efficiency and reliability of recurring accounting processes.

• Proven experience working in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for core month-end close tasks.

• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial statement support and Quickbooks

• Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate journal entries and supporting documentation.

• Experience completing account reconciliations and resolving variances independently.

• Hands-on background in bank reconciliations and cash-related balance review.

• High attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage deadlines effectively in a fast-paced accounting environment.
