Account Director

Position Overview VML, a global creative agency, is seeking an Account Director to support a premier automotive client. The position is based in our Costa Mesa office with a hybrid workstyle. The Account Director will manage growth, profitability, and client relationships, report to the Managing Director, Account Management, and lead a growing account team. What You'll Do Lead client relationships, uncover business needs, develop strategies, and translate objectives into actionable plans. Drive impact through innovative solutions, leveraging WPP’s AI platforms to enhance client performance. Collaborate across agency functions to ensure execution excellence, manage profitability, and support new business pitches. Oversee team delegation, support junior talent, and maintain organizational operating models. Who You Are Entrepreneurial builder with strong business acumen and ability to marshal people. Ego‑less, willing to wear multiple hats to support team success. Experience & Qualifications 8‑10+ years account leadership in an agency, automotive experience preferred. Proven track record with modern, technology‑enabled delivery models and AI tools. Successful client relationship development with large, multi‑layered accounts. Experience working cross‑functionally across strategy, creative, production, and project management. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and delivery/project management systems. Adaptability to fast‑paced environments where priorities shift. Strong interpersonal communication and strategic approach within layered team structures. People leadership with ability to develop junior talent and build cohesion during growth. Open to travel for content shoots and client visits. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $70,000 – $150,000 USD. Individual compensation varies by location, responsibilities, and experience. We offer a competitive benefits package.
