Tenure Associate Professor

Position Overview A tenure or tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery (ACS) at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS). The role seeks an exceptional surgeon‑scientist (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) dedicated to a self‑directed research program and graduate teaching, with a focus on preventing high‑risk emergency surgery. Salary and Benefits Academic base salary: minimum $164,605 (eligible for faculty practice). This full‑time role is based at the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences campus. Responsibilities Develop and sustain an independent, federally‑funded clinical research program focused on the epidemiology of ACS content areas. Teach graduate courses and supervise graduate students in the ACS division. Participate in collaborative research efforts and contribute to departmental scholarship. Remain clinically active in the ACS division. Qualifications MD or DO (or equivalent) with board certifications appropriate to career stage. Postdoctoral research training and completion of an institutional training award (e.g., F32, T32, K12, KL2). Master’s level training or higher in one or more relevant clinical research disciplines. Strong publication record as first author and demonstrated research focus on ACS clinical epidemiology. Current individual K‑award (K01, K08, or K23) or R01 (or comparable) and evidence of readiness for R01 funding. Participation as a reviewer on an NIH study section. Required Certifications and Licenses Board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery & Surgical Critical Care. Licensed (or eligible) in New Jersey. Completion of a two‑year acute care surgery fellowship with performance/quality improvement experience. Clinical expertise in trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery.
