Job Description

This role supports a high-volume manufacturing facility by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation, electrical, and mechanical systems that keep production running safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Technician works on a 12-hour rotating schedule, partners closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams, and plays a key role in minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety guidelines at all times and maintain a safe work environment, promptly reporting any safety concerns or hazards.
• Read and interpret electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and instrumentation schematics and drawings, and create sketches when needed for clarity.
• Install, maintain, repair, and replace automation systems throughout the production process, ensuring reliable and efficient operation.
• Troubleshoot and repair components such as servos, sensors, control systems, PLC hardware and software, and related automation equipment.
• Set up and troubleshoot in-mold labeling (IML) systems and heat transfer machines to support production requirements.
• Work safely with 480V power systems, following proper procedures and using appropriate tools and protective equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electro-mechanical and instrumentation equipment using meters, gauges, and other appropriate testing tools.
• Apply knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to repair or replace equipment components and assemblies.
• Assemble prototype or experimental circuits based on engineering instructions, technical documentation, and schematics.
• Recommend design or circuitry improvements that simplify installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair solid-state motor drives, temperature controllers, and computerized control systems.
• Analyze data from diagnostic equipment and system monitoring tools to identify and resolve issues affecting performance and reliability.
• Adjust, calibrate, and align equipment and components, and document performance results for future reference.
• Test newly installed or repaired equipment to verify system performance under real operating conditions.
• Identify and resolve root causes of downtime, scrap, and production inefficiencies by systematically analyzing failures and implementing corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing plant processes, equipment performance, and maintenance practices.
• Maintain backups of programs from all electrical devices, including PLCs and control systems, to ensure quick recovery in case of failures.
• Complete preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on schedule and maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities.
• Track and log equipment usage, maintenance activities, and parts replacement to support planning and reliability analysis.
• Report automation system status, issues, and performance updates to leadership and appropriate stakeholders as needed.
• Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating maintenance procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, team leaders, and peers regarding safety, quality, and production concerns.
• Maintain organized and clean work areas in accordance with 5S principles, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored and labeled.
• Prepare work areas prior to maintenance activities and ensure tools and equipment are available, in good condition, and suitable for the task.
• Support and participate in training initiatives, and attend required training sessions to stay current on equipment and safety practices.
• Assist in identifying needs for new or replacement equipment, tools, and spare parts to support reliable operations.
• Collaborate closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• At least 2 years of experience in electrical and/or robotic work, including hands-on troubleshooting and repair.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
• Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, including controls and communication protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and instrumentation schematics, as well as basic ladder logic diagrams.
• Hands-on experience with AC/DC motors, starters, relays, and related motor control components.
• Hands-on experience with sensors, including capacitive and inductive types, and their integration into control systems.
• Practical experience with PLC systems and related components, including troubleshooting and minor programming or adjustments.
• Experience using precision measuring tools and electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, gauges, and other diagnostic instruments.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex issues and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with maintenance, engineering, and production teams.
• Basic computer skills, including email, report writing, and the use of spreadsheets for tracking parts, projects, and maintenance activities.
• Ability to manage and support projects related to process improvements and equipment changes.
• Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to grease, oils, solvents, noise, and alarms.
• Willingness to work overtime, different shifts, and be on-call as required by production and maintenance needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate (2-year) technical degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 2 years of hydraulic mechanic experience, including troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic systems.
• Experience with injection molding processes and related equipment.
• Experience working with automation systems beyond basic maintenance, including optimization and upgrades.
• Exposure to or experience with lean manufacturing principles and 5S methodologies.
• Familiarity with solid-state motor drives, temperature controllers, and computerized control systems.
• Experience assembling prototype or experimental circuits based on engineering instructions.
• identifying and implementing design or circuitry improvements to enhance maintainability and reliability.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing plant in Lordstown, OH and involves working on a 12-hour rotating schedule, with available shifts including 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). The role requires flexibility to work overtime, different shifts, and be on-call as needed to support production demands. The environment includes exposure to grease, oils, solvents, noise, and alarms, and involves regular interaction with automation equipment, PLCs (Allen-Bradley and Siemens), AC/DC motors, sensors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and high-voltage equipment such as 480V power. Work is hands-on and performed both on the production floor and in maintenance areas, using precision measuring tools, electrical testing instruments, and diagnostic equipment. The facility emphasizes safety and 5S principles, so employees maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and readily available.

This is a Permanent position based out of Youngstown, OH.

The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $65000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
