BUSINESS TAXES SPECIALIST I, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

Business Taxes Specialist I – Overview Location: Fresno, California. This permanent, full‑time position reports to a Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) I and serves as a lead inspector for CDTFA tax programs including cigarette and tobacco, sales tax, and cannabis. The role requires at least fifty percent travel, including overnight travel, and is eligible for partial telework for California residents as described in Government Code 14200. Responsibilities Conduct complex and difficult compliance and enforcement work such as licensing inspections, administrative seizures, non‑compliance citations, and monitoring courtroom disposition of citations issued. Prepare inspection and seizure reports, conduct field observations, identify interrelated fraud schemes, and perform related duties to ensure compliance with tax laws, including licensing and reporting requirements. Coordinate efforts with other governmental agencies and appear in court proceedings for CDTFA tax programs. Minimum Requirements Act as a lead inspector and independently conduct the most complex compliance work. Travel at least fifty percent of the time, including overnight travel. Pass PC 832 training (Arrest, Search & Seizure) prior to appointment into the classification. Working Conditions Partial telework may be available for California residents. Must be able to move/transport materials, including cannabis and tobacco products weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Work long and irregular hours, both in and out of the office and in various locations in an assigned area. May work in a high‑rise building and be exposed to cannabis, nicotine, and other related products deemed potentially hazardous.
