You prefer variety and surprise over a steady weekly rhythm. Our Ideal Applicant You take pride in numbers that match the first time. When they do not match, you check your own work against a second source before anyone else has to look at it. You start early. You want the work finished with enough runway that the person reviewing it has time to actually review it, not rush through it because you handed it over at the last minute. You ask before you assume. When something in a request looks off, you flag it the same day. You do not sit on a problem hoping it fixes itself. You keep a running list of what is open and what is closed. Nothing falls through, because you write it down the moment it comes up and you work it until it is done. You file things where the next person can find them. You catch errors before they go downstream. You pick up the small tasks nobody assigned, because you noticed them and you were the closest to the work. You like being counted on. Several people needing something from you in the same week is not stress, it is the shape of a good job. What You'll Be Responsible For Vendors and Crews Paid Accurately and On Time You own the payables cycle. Every invoice is coded to the right general ledger account and paid on schedule. Payroll runs clean each cycle and everyone gets their correct pay. Certified payroll reports go out ahead of their deadlines and match the project records behind them. Corporate card transactions are posted and reconciled against statements. Vendor records stay current, and year end 1099s are prepared and filed correctly. You handle these cycles start to finish, and you catch your own errors before anything reaches review. Bank Accounts Reconciled and Balanced The company's cash records match the bank. Accounts reconcile on the regular cycle, ACH transactions are reviewed and approved, and positive pay authorizations are managed so payments clear the way they should. When something does not match, you find the reason. The CFO can trust the balances at any point in the month, because your reconciliations are prepared ahead of their deadlines and ready for review. Tax Filings Submitted by Their Deadlines Monthly sales and use tax reports are prepared and payments submitted on time, every period. You track the recurring filing dates, pull the numbers you need, and have the work ready ahead of the deadline. This is a repeating cycle with hard dates, and when it runs well the company stays current on what it owes without the CFO having to chase it. Month End Close Supported and On Schedule You carry your share of the month end close so the books finish on time. The accounts you own are reconciled, posted, and ready when close begins, and you handle the recurring tasks that feed into close without needing a reminder. The period closes on schedule because the pieces you own were prepared ahead of the deadline. Construction Team and Office Backed Up The construction management team gets the reports and project documents they depend on, including project insurance filings and billing support when it is needed. On the office side, vehicle registrations are handled and mail moves in and out reliably. This is the support work that keeps projects documented and the office running. The construction team and the rest of the company count on the accounting desk to have what they asked for ready when they need it. Qualifications Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience is preferred. We will consider candidates without a formal accounting background who show strong attention to detail. Working knowledge of general ledger coding and standard accounts payable workflow. Comfort with an AP platform, an online payroll platform, and general accounting software, and the ability to learn new systems quickly. Proficiency in spreadsheets for reconciliations and recurring reports. Strong organization and the ability to track multiple recurring deadlines across weekly, monthly, and annual cycles. Careful problem solving skills, with the ability to trace a variance back to its source and correct it at the desk. Ability to work independently start to finish on recurring processes with limited direction after training. Clear written and verbal communication with vendors, project managers, and the CFO. High school diploma required. An associate's degree or coursework in accounting is a plus. Compensation and Benefits Pay rate is $27 to $35 per hour depending on experience in accounting, particularly commercial construction accounting.
