LPN Medical Surgical

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) in the Medical Surgical unit provides direct nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role involves managing patient assignments, performing clinical tasks such as medication administration and wound care, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating with the healthcare team to support acute care patients with conditions like COPD exacerbation and infections. The LVN/LPN must demonstrate proficiency in acute care skills and effective communication within a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities:

• Take and manage own patient assignments with RN support.
• Monitor vital signs, pain, intake/output, and isolation precautions.
• Administer medications via oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear, and eye drops.
• Perform IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring.
• Provide wound care including simple dressings and drain management.
• Assist with bathing, mouth care, Foley catheter insertion, and specimen collection.
• Communicate patient status changes to RN and medical staff.
• Float within skillset to other units as required.
• Chart patient care accurately using EPIC electronic medical records.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York State Single State LPN license (NY is not Compact).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Acute care experience within the last 2 years.
• Skills in telemetry monitoring, 12-lead EKG, oxygen administration via nasal cannula, feeding tube management, and medication administration.
• Proficiency in vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring, specimen labeling, wound care basics, and Foley catheter insertion.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with EPIC electronic health records system.
• Previous experience in medical-surgical acute care settings.
• Comfort with telemetry and MS/Tele care settings.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to float to other units within skillset.
• Scrub color: any combination of navy blue and white.
• Must be available to work every other holiday if needed.
• Client may cancel up to three shifts during a 13-week contract without charge.

Scheduling:

• Shift hours alternate between 1900 to 0700 and 0700 to 1900.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Special scheduling requests must be submitted upon contract submission.
