LPN Medical Surgical

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) in the Medical Surgical unit provides direct nursing care to medical patients, including those with COPD exacerbation, infections, and failure to thrive. The role involves taking patient assignments with RN support, performing clinical assessments, administering medications, and monitoring patient status. The LVN/LPN collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care in an acute care setting. Responsibilities:

• Take own patient assignment with RN support in a medical-surgical setting.
• Perform vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring, and isolation precautions.
• Manage physical restraints and specimen labeling.
• Administer oxygen via nasal cannula and manage feeding tubes.
• Monitor telemetry and perform 12-lead EKGs.
• Administer medications (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops) and perform IV therapy with pumps.
• Conduct blood glucose monitoring and basic wound care including simple dressings and drain management.
• Provide bathing, mouth care, Foley catheter insertion, and clean catch urine collection.
• Communicate patient status changes to RN and MD promptly.
• Float within skillset to other units as required.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York Single State LPN license (NY is not Compact).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Acute care experience within the last 2 years.
• Proficiency in EPIC charting system.
• Clinical skills including vital signs, medication administration, IV therapy, telemetry monitoring, and wound care.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with telemetry and medical-surgical patient care.
• Familiarity with care of patients with COPD exacerbation, infections, and failure to thrive.

Special Considerations:

• Must be available to work every other weekend and every other holiday if needed.
• Floating to other units within skillset is required.
• Call off policy allows client to cancel up to three shifts during a 13-week contract without charges.
• Scrub color: navy blue and white combinations.

Scheduling:

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• Every other weekend required.
• Requests for time off or special scheduling must be submitted upon contract submission.
