Job Title Faculty - Department of Surgery/Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery (Open Rank/Track) Department Medicine | Surgery General Position Overview The Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery seeks highly qualified PhD level candidates to join its cutting‑edge research team. This 100% research faculty position focuses on basic and translational research within esophageal/foregut, bariatric, and abdominal wall surgery. Duties and Responsibilities Conceptualizes, plans, designs, implements, and conducts research studies; develops and writes grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding, maintaining NIH R01 or equivalent funding; Writes and publishes research in high-quality peer‑reviewed scientific journals; presents at national and international scientific conferences, building a national and international scholarly reputation; Instructs and mentors junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents, and fellow trainees; participates in department, college, and university committees and initiatives. Requirements PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer‑reviewed journals preferred Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01) Academic experience a plus Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level – academic rank and salary commensurate with previous training and experience Position Type Regular Scheduled Hours 40 Shift First Shift Location Twelfth Ave, 395 W (0356) Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check.
