Accounting Associate

Job Summary

A growing real estate accounting team in Laguna Beach is seeking an Accounting Associate for a temp-to-hire opportunity. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with hands-on AP, AR, reconciliation, and Yardi experience who wants to build a long-term career in property accounting.

The Accounting Associate will support day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger support, financial reporting, cash management, etc.

This is a fully in-office role offering meaningful exposure beyond basic data entry. The team provides hands-on training, supportive leadership, and a clear growth path into junior accountant, staff accountant, property accountant, and senior property accountant responsibilities. Candidates who enjoy accuracy, problem-solving, spreadsheets, and learning how real estate financial operations work will be well positioned for success.

Key Responsibilities

- Process vendor invoices in Yardi Pay Scan, confirm coding by property, entity, account, and project, and maintain accurate AP documentation.
- Support accounts receivable activity, including tenant ledgers, receivable tracking, payment posting, past-due follow-up, and monthly AR reporting.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations, match transactions to supporting documentation, and research discrepancies.
- Assist with month-end close, including general ledger review, account reconciliations, journal entry support, prepaid expenses, intercompany activity, and AP/AR reconciliation.
- Support property-level financial reporting, including balance sheets, income statements, budget-to-actual reports, cash balances, and expense reports.
- Assist with construction accounting, lender draw packages, wire documentation, invoice support, project expenditure tracking, and organized electronic accounting files.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay range: $33 to $36 per hour.
- Job type: Temp
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Work arrangement: Fully in office.
- Location: Laguna Beach, CA.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage AP and AR accounting activity for multiple real estate properties and related entities.
- Perform bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, general ledger support, and month-end close assistance.
- Use Yardi for invoice entry, AP processing, AR entries, coding, account research, reporting, and reconciliations.
- Support property accounting, construction invoice tracking, lender draws, wire documentation, and financial reporting.

- 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting, AP, AR, bookkeeping, property accounting, or finance operations experience.
- Experience with Yardi is required.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with spreadsheets, reconciliations, and financial data.
- Ability to manage multiple properties, entities, accounts, deadlines, and priorities with accuracy.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving ability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
- Comfortable researching discrepancies, identifying coding issues, and asking questions when something does not make sense.
- Coursework, certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required or strongly relevant.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or current progress toward one.
- Real estate accounting experience.
- Property management accounting experience.
- Understanding of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, general ledgers, and budget-to-actual reports.
- Experience with construction accounting, lender draws, lien releases, reimbursements, intercompany expenses, management fees, leasing commissions, or asset management fees.
- Prior experience supporting monthly close for multiple entities or properties.
