Position Overview Gender affirming surgery Salary The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay for this position at $250,000 - $500,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. The 2025-26 scales are available on the UCOP website. Position Description The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, Department of Urology seeks faculty members with expertise in gender-affirming urologic and pelvic surgery to join a large, collaborative, multidisciplinary program providing comprehensive care for transgender and nonbinary patients. The successful candidate will manage a patient population from a broad referral base and provide clinical care at multiple sites, including VAHCS San Diego. Clinical responsibilities include gender-affirming surgical procedures such as vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, and related reconstructive care. The candidate will also teach medical students, residents, and fellows and engage in scholarly activity aligned with the advancement of gender‑affirming care. Opportunities exist for clinical program development and leadership within this growing area of specialty care. Appointments may require candidates to be self‑funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee must be aware of limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Department Basic Qualifications MD, MD/PhD or equivalent Eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit Completed a Urology residency program Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Urology Additional Qualifications Completed a fellowship in Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery (GURS), Gender‑Affirming Surgery, or related subspecialty by the start of the appointment Preferred Qualifications Established or emerging record of scholarly activity in gender‑affirming care or reconstructive urology Minimum one year working within a multidisciplinary team caring for transgender and nonbinary patients Application Requirements Curriculum Vitae – most recently updated C.V.
