Summary: A Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost‑effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities Clinical - Obtain relevant health and medical history, perform a thorough physical assessment, review and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop differential diagnoses. Implement treatment plans, including prescribing and ordering evidence‑based pharmacological agents, and schedule follow‑up management. Incorporate evidence‑based hospital initiatives to improve patient care. Conduct preventive health screening and maintain clear, comprehensive patient records. Maintain essential knowledge of general disease and pathologic processes and specialty literature. Consistently prioritize work, assist staff to provide efficient client flow, and maintain high productivity. Lead or participate in projects to improve productivity, and perform medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging. Education - Professionally educate clients and/or families regarding medical conditions, treatment, and follow‑up. Collaborate with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient‑family centered care. Develop educational materials based on learning needs and provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students. Attend education programs as needed. Leadership - Provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students, including precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning reports, and staff meetings. Participate in community/network outreach programs, develop and lead community outreach initiatives, and apply system knowledge to improve health care delivery. Lead or participate in systems improvement projects. Professional - Interact with patients and families respectfully, courteously, and timely. Collaborate with coworkers and staff in a respectful manner appropriate to patient needs. Respond quickly to meet customer needs, resolve problems, and accept responsibility for work outcomes. Share overall workload with team members. Quality/Research - Engage in continuous quality improvement, identify and implement improvement processes, consult with management, and lead interdisciplinary teams. Initiate and revise protocols or guidelines to reflect evidence‑based changes, influence policy-making bodies, and develop new clinical programs or services within the department to improve patient care. Other Information Education Requirements Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Acute Care PNP license is strongly preferred. Board certification if required by the Department. DEA registration. Professional Experience Requirements No prior experience required. PCICU/PICU experience strongly preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements Demonstrated clinical competency. Effective leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills. Effective interaction to ensure successful care of patients in the clinical setting. Documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing.
