Key Responsibilities Conduct Mental Health Assessments: Perform thorough evaluations of elderly residents to identify their mental health needs, focusing on cognitive, emotional, and social factors affecting their quality of life. Provide Counseling Services: Facilitate both individual and group counseling sessions, addressing a range of emotional challenges such as grief, anxiety, and depression related to aging and life transitions. Collaborate with Healthcare Teams: Work alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement comprehensive care plans that prioritize the mental health needs of geriatric residents. Educate Staff and Families: Share strategies and resources with family members and caregivers on promoting emotional wellbeing, equipping them with tools to support their elderly loved ones effectively. Implement Mental Health Interventions: Design and execute cognitive stimulation programs aimed at enhancing the mental acuity of seniors, using evidence-based practices tailored to their unique circumstances. Grief and Loss Support: Offer support for residents and their families coping with end-of-life issues, providing empathetic counseling during challenging times. Patient Population / Client Focus This role emphasizes a strong connection with an aging population, primarily seniors facing various mental health issues linked to the aging process, including grief from loss, anxiety concerning health changes, and struggles with adapting to life transitions. Your expertise will be pivotal in addressing their psychological needs and improving their overall quality of life. Qualifications Education: A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution is required. Licensure: A valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) license is essential for this position. Experience: A minimum of 4 years of recent experience in geriatric counseling and mental health support is critical. Additional Training: Specialized training in geriatric mental health and aging-related issues is advantageous. Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with elderly clients and their families. Preferred Experience Demonstrated experience delivering mental health services to elderly individuals facing various psychological challenges. Understanding of evidence-based practices specific to geriatric mental health. Ability to assess complex needs and design personalized treatment strategies based on individual assessments. Compensation and Benefits This position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $65,000 to $95,000, based on experience and qualifications.
