Collections specialist

Randstad is seeking a Collections Specialist for our national utilities client.

In this role, you will balance commercial and residential accounts, resolve billing discrepancies, and maintain the vital data tracking systems that keep the department moving forward.

• Pay Rate: $25.00 to $27.25 per hour (based on experience)
• Contract Length: 1-year contract with the potential for extension or permanent hire
• Location: Columbus, Ohio (43215)

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on collections experience.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Excel for building and maintaining reports.
• strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication skills, with the ability to handle high-responsibility decision-making under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Manage Account Portfolios: Contact residential and commercial customers via telephone to negotiate payment plans and recover overdue balances.
• Resolve Disputes: Partner closely with customers and customer service teams to investigate and quickly resolve billing discrepancies.
• Track & Analyze Data: Build, update, and publish daily, weekly, and monthly accounts receivable (A/R) and collections reports.
• Optimize Recovery: Evaluate unpaid accounts to recommend next steps, including utility supply returns or placement with third-party collection agencies.
• Improve Processes: Document and monitor operating procedures to ensure full compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
