Registered Nurse PICU

Job Summary:


The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse performs critical nursing duties in a highly specialized pediatric critical care environment, providing advanced patient care to critically ill children and their families. They ensure safety, comfort, and optimal health outcomes through expert clinical practices and collaboration with healthcare teams.

Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, and implement individualized nursing care for pediatric patients in the PICU.
• Monitor patient vital signs, IV access, and ventilator settings, adjusting care plans accordingly.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop and modify treatment plans.
• Document patient progress, interventions, and responses accurately within electronic health records.
• Provide education and emotional support to patients’ families regarding care and prognosis.
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and clinical guidelines, including infection control standards.

Qualifications:

• Hold an active state Registered Nurse (RN) license or be eligible to obtain one.
• Possess at least 2 years of PICU experience, with demonstrated proficiency in pediatric critical care.
• Have current certifications: BLS, PALS, and NRP; ACLS preferred.
• Demonstrate experience with pediatric post-anesthesia care, NICU, or PICU float pool staffing.
• Be comfortable with Epic electronic health record system and inpatient clinical procedures.
• Hold or be eligible to obtain Dr. Brown’s Infant Driven Feeding Certification (cost $185).
