General Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab RN delivers direct patient care using nursing knowledge and skills, ensuring safety and quality outcomes through critical thinking and adherence to established protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to patient safety protocols including infection prevention, safe handling, and critical lab notifications.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide patient and family education within hospital guidelines.
• Engage in quality monitoring and process improvement activities as directed by leadership.
• Safely administer conscious sedation, peri-procedural pharmacologic agents, and emergency medications.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status and communicate findings effectively to the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, vital signs, cardiac rhythms, medications, and supplies used during procedures.
• Communicate professionally with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families to enhance care outcomes and patient experience.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Adapt positively to changes in healthcare dynamics and pursue ongoing education to enhance nursing skills.
• Understand and analyze hemodynamic waveforms and data recorded during catheterization procedures.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of critical care or equivalent nursing experience is necessary. Experience in interventional cardiac catheterization is advantageous.

Certification and Licensure

• Current RN license valid in a Compact state or the state of practice.
• BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association are mandatory.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including frequent heavy lifting, extended standing periods wearing lead aprons, and the ability to perform CPR. The RN must be capable of applying pressure to catheter insertion sites for prolonged durations.

Working Conditions

The role involves wearing full lead protective attire for radiation safety, exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and occasional interactions with hostile individuals. The RN must be able to function effectively under stress and handle biohazardous materials safely.
