We are looking for a Human Resources Assistant to support day-to-day HR operations in Oakland, California. This is a Contract position offering part-time hours on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule, with an opportunity to contribute across onboarding, employee support, and administrative processes. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, sound judgment with confidential information, and a working knowledge of HR systems and California employment practices.

Responsibilities:
• Support core human resources activities by maintaining employee records, processing routine documentation, and helping keep HR files accurate and up to date.
• Coordinate onboarding tasks for new hires, including preparing materials, tracking completion of required paperwork, and assisting with pre-employment steps such as background checks.
• Use HR information systems and spreadsheets to enter, review, and organize personnel data while helping ensure data accuracy and consistency.
• Respond to employee and manager inquiries on standard HR topics, escalating more complex issues when needed and maintaining a thorough, service-oriented approach.
• Assist with employee relations administration by documenting concerns, tracking follow-up items, and supporting HR team processes in a confidential manner.
• Prepare reports, status trackers, and other administrative documents in Microsoft Excel and related tools to support HR operations and decision-making.
• Help monitor compliance with company guidelines and applicable California employment requirements through careful recordkeeping and process support.• Basic knowledge of human resources practices and administrative workflows.
• Experience working with an HRIS platform such as Paycom or a comparable system.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence working with spreadsheets for tracking and reporting.
• Familiarity with California employment law and standard workplace compliance considerations.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational ability, and discretion when handling sensitive information.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across teams.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and approach tasks with a positive, collaborative mindset.
